A rousing gothic musical based on the classic tale of good and evil - murder and chaos run rampant and evil lurks around every corner, but love and virtue put up a strong fight in this engaging thriller.
Inspired by the tragedy of his own mother, Dr Jekyll seeks a cure to the eternal problem of good and evil and which dominates our behaviour. Refused support from the Governor's of the hospital, Jekyll tests his formula on himself creating a split in his own personality and the creation of Mr Hyde. Unable to control his transformations Jekyll, sometimes as Hyde throws into jeopardy his engagement with Emma Carew by his attraction also to the singer and prostitute Lucy. Drawn to qualities in both women and plagued by advice from Emma's father Sir Danvers and his childhood friend Utterson, Jekyll begins to lose the battle to Hyde's darker nature leading to the murder of the hospital's board of Governors.
Revelling in his blood lust Hyde commits the ultimate crime and murders Lucy out of jealousy of her love for Jekyll. In despair Jekyll battles Hyde for control of his own soul. It appears Jekyll has finally gained the upper hand until his wedding to Emma when Hyde again appears. To save the other woman he loves Jekyll is forced to kill both himself and Hyde at the hands of his best friend Utterson. The play is set against a backdrop of the contrasting decadence and poverty of late Victorian London with a large Ensemble cast representing the "facade" of acceptability society expects of all of us. Like a sea of judged souls they respond to Jekyll's perpetual torment through the music of this moving story.
